HEAD OF EYFS' WELCOME
A very warm welcome to the Primary and Pre-Primary section at Bloomsbury International School Hatyai. The Primary and Early Years are a very special time in our children's educational journey, laying the foundations for future happiness and success. Dr. JoAnn Deak, the author of "Your Fantastic Elastic Brain Stretch It, Shape It" refers to the golden decade. We as teachers and parents can give our children a working knowledge and understanding of how they learn, making us all "neuro-sculptures".
Our understanding that "every interaction a child has, during the course of a day, influences the adult that child will become" underpins all of our work making us a happy and vibrant learning environment where the children and staff are supported to ask the "what if" questions that extend the possibilities of learning and teaching.
This is because at Bloomsbury, we know that mistakes are a vital part of our learning upon which we reflect to inform the next step of our development. Consequently, we are not afraid to take risks as we have positive intentions and celebrate the learning, development, and opportunities created by each step of the process.
We are a caring school that places great emphasis on the wellbeing and happiness of our whole community. Thereby facilitating and ensuring that we are all emotionally supported, academically challenged, and primed to succeed. Research shows that focusing on social and emotional learning, not only makes us feel happier, it helps us achieve more and even live longer and more productive lives in a caring society.
When visiting the school, prior to appointment, I was pleased to note a picture of Aristotle on the wall. Aristotle maintained that educating the mind without educating the heart was no education at all. Working in the same period, about 2000 years ago but in China, Zhuangzi emphasised Wei, knowing one's actions and acting in flow with nature. This ancient wisdom is supported by modern research such as Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, Csikszentmihalyi's concept of flow, and Martin Seligman's work on Authentic Happiness. Here, at Bloomsbury Primary and Pre-Primary, we aspire every day to use the tried and tested teaching skills enhanced by the latest research on the neuroscience of learning to prepare our children to be happy and successful lifelong learners. We learn, laugh, and flourish together. But don't take my word for it, you are more than welcome to come in and see us in action at a mutually convenient time.Mark Ellis
