Year 7 students are learning about the different categories of instruments and how these instruments are classified into certain groups. In the last lesson, they focused on the chordophone category of instruments. These are instruments that make sound by way of a vibrating string, and all of them share similar qualities.
The ukulele is one instrument that is classified as a chordophone and so in today’s Year 7 music class they learnt how chordophones produce sound and some of the ways they use them to make music. Students learnt how to strum the ukulele and play different chords as well as read basic tablature notation. This helps students become more independent learners of the chordophone category of instruments and allows them to experience how these instruments are used to create music.
